《118》剧情简介

　　《118》把新加坡人好的一面：热情、实在、关怀、坚强、重视亲情、和睦共处、居安思危、求同存异…呈现出来；也把不好的一面：自私、冷漠、排外、挑剔、安逸、小心眼、吃不了苦…摊开在大家面前。通过戏剧，让大家看清自己的优点和缺点，有则改之，无则加勉。

“118” is a long-form 190-episode social dramedy, with ½ hour episodes. The drama aims to portray the many facets of Singaporean life through a light-hearted situational comedy with relatable characters and incidents.

The story unfolds in Tiong Bahru – a precinct where the old meets new for a vibrant fusion of culture.

Hong Da Ming makes a living in Tiong Bahru. The area holds much significance for him – having grew up, married and worked in Tiong Bahru all his life. He married the younger of the “Ang Mo Kio Sisters” – Liu Mei Mei – who were active in the early years of the getai scene. Liu Mei Mei is a meticulous lady who knows how to plan ahead. With their first earnings, the couple opened a small coffee-shop in Tiong Bahru.

Hong Da Ming is a positive and generous man. As his coffee shop and house number are both “118”, the people around him gave him the nickname of “118” (or 要要发), much to his delight. Together with his wife, he makes a living by running the coffee-shop, and are well-known in Tiong Bahru. Whenever someone is in need, they would always seek out 118 for help.

His family lives in a 3-room flat, which was built in pre-war years, above the coffee shop. He has 4 children – 2 of his own, and 2 of his deceased buddy. The children are named Shun Feng, Shun Shui, Jin Zhi and Yu Ye （顺风顺水，金枝玉叶）- Shun Shui and Jin Zhi are his own children, while Shun Feng and Yu Ye are the children of his deceased buddy.

Having 6 people living in a 3-room flat is cramped-up enough, yet he also rents out a room to “Ah Niang”, a middle-aged man whose original name is Li Wei Liang. Ah Niang studied fashion design in France, but circumstances led him to simply run a stall in 118’s coffee-shop, selling dumplings with the recipe that his mother left for him.

Ah Niang was not the only addition to the cramped flat. Later, Liu Mei Mei’s elder sister – Liu Jie Jie – and her family also came to live with 118 when her husband’s business failed. 118’s own younger sister and her daughter also came to live with him “temporarily” when her husband disappeared mysteriously. Kind-hearted by nature, 118 felt that they must have come to him because they were at their wit’s end. He would rather make room for them by having his own sons sleep in the living room, than to chase them away heartlessly.
